She worked in her parent’s drive-in grocery store in high school. She met many interesting characters in those four years. She also waited tables at the famous OST when her parents operated that establishment. She attended and graduated from Tarleton State University with a BS in Education. After teaching a couple of years and discovering she didn’t know what she was doing, Bonnie attended Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio and obtained a certification in LLD = Language Learning Disabilities. This gave her a firm foundation about children’s learning and she went on to teach many years: first grade-sixth. She attended University of Texas in Austin in 1986 and received her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a many hours in Gifted and Talented. The most important thing she did for students was to read to them and teach them the joys of writing. Therefore, over the many years of teaching she read thousands of books to students. This gave her a firm basis for writing children’s books. She also taught several classes to fellow teachers on how to teach writing to students. She always told her students that when they grew up she hoped some of them became authors and would dedicate a book to: Mrs. Crow. When she retired from teaching she thought: Hey, I have time now, why don’t I write children’s books. She writes many hours every day, puts the manuscript in a drawer for cooling off, then takes it out again to look at it with fresh eyes revising and rewriting. Bonnie takes her time trying to make each word *sparkle*. Bonnie receives suggestions from the critique groups she attends. Bonnie now lives in Katy, Texas. Her older son and daughter reside in Houston. Her husband and eighteen year old son keep her busy as well as Ricco, the boxer, Peppermint Patty, the lab, and a fourteen year old gray cat who would rather spit at you than be petted. Besides reading and writing Bonnie cooks, watches movies and plays with her 2 year old granddaughter as much as possible.
